Are you good enough?

Here at the Mobile Motion Film Festival we believe in moving image storytelling in its purest form.

But wait.

Before you read any more, think a minute.

It’s just that smartphone filmmaking might not be for you.

You see, making films with a smartphone is only for those who are truly creative.

Because there’s one thing we know: if you’re making a film with nothing more than a smartphone, there’s really nowhere to hide.

So, before you try your hand at this, you might want to ask yourself: “Am I good enough?”

You know, it’s one thing to shoot a film with your 8K Super 35mm CMOS Sensor and your APO-Telyt-R 1:5.6/1600mm telephoto lens. But we wonder if those guys would be so impressive without their little toys.

So, what do you think? Are you better than filmmakers whose films depend on thousands of dollars worth of equipment to look good?

I mean, are you good enough?

You see, many people look down on smartphone filmmakers. But they’ve got it all back-to-front.

Smartphone filmmakers are the toughest, smartest, most innovative kids out there.

We talk about surviving in the modern world. With our latte macchiatos and our apps which have someone cook and deliver our dinner for us while we binge watch the latest show on Netflix.

Do you call that surviving? If so, this might not be for you.

We just wanted to prepare you because, well… smartphone filmmaking is like being dropped in a forest with only your wits, and maybe a decent knife. And you might not be fit enough for that.

Think about it. Just you versus nature. How would you fare? Would you be good enough?

Filmmaking with all that kit at your disposal is like climbing a hill because it’s easier.

Smartphone filmmakers don’t climb hills.

We climb mountains.

Just because we can.

Climbing a mountain

Can you?

(P.S. Most of our winners are women. Just sayin’)
