Hohem iSteady Multi: Smartphone, iPhone, GoPro, Sony, Mirrorless Camera Gimbal
Looking for a gimbal that can handle higher payloads without making the step up to full DSLR gimbal? The Hohem iSteady Multi can carry a maximum of 400 grams, which places it between the Zhiyun Crane-M2 and regular gimbals.
We made a list of smartphone gimbals and ranked them according to max payload. The iSteady Multi comes 3rd on the list, but it’s quite a bit cheaper than the 2 above it. Meanwhile, the gimbal itself weighs about 450 grams, so it’s pretty portable too.
The iSteady Multi aims to cross over between bigger cameras and smartphones, like the Crane-M2 and the Feiyu G6 Plus. But this is a more lightweight version, which means it can’t carry heavy DSLRs with big lenses.
The battery lasts 8 hours, which is a little longer than the Crane-M2 but less than the Feiyu G6 Plus (12 hours). Included is a cable which works with Sony compact cameras. This allows you to control zoom, focus, shutter speed, and set record via the gimbal controls.
The gimbal allows a 600° rotation on the pan axis, while the rolling and the tilting axis both allow 320° rotation. The iSteady Multi also uses a quick release plate system for mounting your smartphone, action camera or compact camera.
Gimbal motor in shot problem solved
A major problem with regular smartphone gimbals when using wide angle lenses is that the front gimbal motor gets into the frame. But the iSteady Multi solves that problem by having the motor at the rear (like the Crane-M2 and G6 Plus).
On the downside, the motor now obscures the screen of the smartphone a little. So I guess it comes down to what’s more important, using wide angle lenses freely or having a clear view of the screen.
Hohem iSteady Multi Modes
The gimbal has 6 modes to choose from:
- Pan Following
- Pan & Tilt Following
- All Locked
- All Following(POV)
- Inception Mode
- Sport Mode(Fast Following)
Hohem Gimbal Smartphone App
Like other gimbals, the iSteady Multi comes with a downloadable app providing various features and remote functions.
- time-lapse
- motion time-lapse
- face tracking
- manual controls: shutter speed, white balance, ISO and so on
- zoom and focus control
- HDR – on or off
- OIS (anti-shake) – on or off
In Conclusion
The Hohem iSteady Multi fills that small gap between the regular smartphone gimbals and the heavier duty gimbals, Crane-M2 and G6 Plus. So, if you are looking for a gimbal to take the weight of your iPhone 11 Pro Max plus a lens and maybe a microphone, this could be an affordable option. Plus, another big advantage is the rear motor out of wide angle lens frame.
