Feiyu G6 Plus DSLR GoPro & Smartphone Gimbal
The Feiyu G6 Plus is a stabilizing gimbal designed to be used with smartphones, action cameras, GoPros as well as light DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. While the gimbal has been around for some time, it has only recently come to my attention.
If you just want a lightweight, portable gimbal for your smartphone, there are better choices. But for serious smartphone filmmakers, the issue of max payload for a gimbal has recently arisen. A new iPhone 11 Pro Max (without case) weighs 225 grams putting it close to the limit of many gimbals. Add extras, like case or lens, and the combined weight will be well over that limit.
So for those looking for something a bit more powerful, our only choice is to use a DSLR gimbal. But this seems overkill, not to mention costly. Until I heard about the Feiyu G6 Plus, the Zhiyun Crane-M2 was the only gimbal I knew of like it. So how does the Feiyu G6 Plus compare?
Feiyu G6 Plus
The Feiyu G6 Plus weighs 663 grams and can carry a max payload of 800 grams, which is a little more than the Zhiyun Crane-M2. The Zhiyun Crane-M2 is quite a bit lighter at 500 grams. When it comes to battery life, the G6 has 12 hours compared to the Crane-M2’s 7.
The G6 Plus looks and feels like a smaller version of the Feiyu AK200. But with the included smartphone holder you can use the gimbal with your phone, as well as heavier cameras and action cameras. So this could be a great option if you like to use a variety of smaller and larger cameras for video shooting.
The gimbal has a very straight forward, functional design. Paired with your camera, the gimbal has various remote control options for shooting. The Joystick enables smooth movement of the gimbal in the following axis:
- Rolling: 320°
- Panning: 360°
- Tilting: 260°
Fine Tuning
In Joystick settings, the app allows you to adjust the panning and tilting speed. You can also adjust Motor Strength to suit the weight of the camera you are using. Once connected to the app, the G6 Plus can adjust the focus, exposure, switch shooting mode, select the resolution and more.
One of the nice things about this gimbal is the option to fine tune so many settings. This allows you to really customise the gimbal to your needs and shooting preferences.
Feiyu warn that powering up the gimbal before balancing correctly could result in a trembling, shaking gimbal motor. Bear in mind unlike most smartphone gimbals, the G6 Plus needs you to balance the camera on all 3 axis. Also note, having the Motor Strength setting too high for your camera weight can also result in motor jitter.
The 26650 rechargeable battery included is also removable, allowing the possibility of carrying spare batteries. So, if 12 hours between charges isn’t long enough, this could be a solution. Feiyu say the battery takes about 3 hours to fully charge.
One Two of a Kind
While this is not the newest gimbal, there’s few competitors able to carry a heavy smartphone + extras (without making the step up to full DSLR gimbal). As I say, the Zhiyun Crane-M2 is the only other one I know about. But Feiyu gimbals are aimed more at serious filmmakers, hence all those fine tuning options.
Like the Crane-M2, the 3rd motor is situated at the back of the camera, which means no accursed gimbal motor in frame when using wide or anamorphic lenses issue.
Check the beginning of this video for a nice example of some smooth footage produced by the gimbal (using a mirrorless camera).
Another advantage the G6 Plus has over the Crane-M2, it’s currently quite a few dollars less expensive.

I got it, partly after seeing your video and I’m not as happy with it:
– impossible to balance with my mirrorless camera (Fuji X-E3) with w/o counterweight
– shitty app – long delay to update the gimbal settings
– gimbal once leveled (through horizontal adjustment in the app) it does not always remember the setting on next turn on (and I often have to do it again)
– info materials done w/ google translate – looks like a joke
PS. I updated the firmware before use.
