Networking for Filmmakers
As as we approach 2019, with the Mobile Motion Film Festival in it’s 5th year, we have a chance to look back at 2018 and see how far we have come. This year was our first on the Patreon platform, where we offer exclusive perks for our patrons continued support.
Simply put, MoMo would not exist without you.
MoMo is getting more attention than ever. Our page views went from about 15,000 in 2017 to over 60,000 in 2018.
We’re also launching our MoMo Filmmakers’ Network.
Find others to work with
Filmmaking is nearly always a collaborative effort. But finding like-minded creatives to work with can be tricky.
Film industry reality usually demands that you have credits before you will be considered for paid work. Often, this can be a Catch 22 – you need the work to get credits, but you can’t get credits until you have work. For example, a producer might not consider you unless you have an agent, but the agent won’t consider you unless you have a healthy looking CV and/or some kind of showreel.
Smartphone filmmakers (or indeed anyone working on a low-to-no budget) are often at the start of their career and are looking for others either at a similar experience level, or are open to the idea of collaborative work to build their experience and CV.
That’s why we’ve started The Network. Listing yourself on our network will let other filmmakers know you are interested in collaboration on low-to-no budget projects.
Thing is, we know people visiting our website are mostly low-budget filmmakers. So it makes sense to add a space to help you find each other.
And, as low-budget filmmaker myself, I’ve already benefited from the MoMo network. From our monthly Meetup in Zurich, Switzerland, I met an actor and a sound recordist. I told them I was making a smartphone-shot scifi series and they both flew to London to take part in Episode 2! (and, by the way, they did an awesome job)
And it’s not just me. Others from the Meetup have gone on form collaborative creative relationships.
We know there are several other listing sites for filmmakers. But it’s not always easy to filter out those who are either not interested in low-budget projects or who perhaps listed themselves on a whim. Our aim is to provide a space for you to get to know other serious filmmakers, like yourselves, dedicated to making the most from modest means.
