Moment Fisheye 14mm
Prolific and popular smartphone conversion lens maker Moment have just added a new lens to their range: a 14mm Fisheye lens with a sharper 170° field of view. Using their own brand camera app, the distortion of the lens can be corrected too. Moment have also introduced online photography and video making lessons, which use some dubious marketing tactics. But more about that later…
Moment’s existing Fisheye lens (15mm) already has a 170° field of view, so why have they introduced a new lens that does the same thing?
“This lens is what we call a full frame fisheye because it allows you to use the full image sensor on the latest camera phones, especially iPhone 11, with no dark corners or vignetting. This means you get a crisp image edge to edge, using 15% more of the image sensor than our Fisheye 15mm.” Moment
Moment say the “bi-aspheric glass, an all new optical design”, added to the option to mount over the inbuilt wide lens, allows more light into the high resolution camera. They says the lens is compatible with the newest iPhone, Pixel, Samsung and OnePlus Phones, including the iPhone 11 range.
This 170° field of view is somewhat wider than an inbuilt super wide lens on a smartphone. For example, the ultra wide on a Samsung S10 has a 123° field of view. The iPhone 11 ultra wide is 120° field of view. A 170° field of view is the same as a GoPro, so Moment are looking to capture some of that action cam market with this lens.
