Apple Release a 5 Hour ShotOniPhone Movie… and it’s shot in one continuous take
Today, Apple released a new movie shot on the iPhone 11 Pro. We’ve become used to music videos and snowball fight movies helmed by big name directors. But this one is a bit different.
“Experience a 5 hr 19 min 28 sec cinematic journey through one of the world’s biggest museums in St. Petersburg, Russia. Take in 45 galleries, 588 masterpieces, and live performances, shot in 4K on iPhone 11 Pro in one continuous take.” Apple
Apple say the movie was not only shot in one 5 hour 19 minute and 46 second take, but this was also achieved on a single battery charge. This is the trailer on YouTube:
However, they have also released the entire film, if you have nothing better to do for the next 5.33 hours.
The full movie opens with a slow turning shot, looking up towards a beautifully painted ceiling. Taking a similar pace to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001, you can tell from the start the filmmakers are not in a hurry. Well, they’ve got over 5 hours to play with, so why would they be?
Highlights
The video takes in the (00:01:25) Jordan Staircase (00:49:00), the 1812 Gallery and the young cadet (02:06:02) Rembrandt (02:55:56) the Hermitage Theatre contemporary ballet duet (03:03:50) the study the ceilings of the Raphael Loggias (03:56:25) and a close-up on Caravaggio’s The Lute Player plus a (04:50:32) Kirill Richter live performance.
The 5 hour epic was directed by Axinya Gog.
If you have the patience, you could try watching the entire thing while trying to spot any “cheating” – ie: places where they could have sneaked in a cheeky edit…
