New Universal Lens Mount from Moment Lenses

Moment were one of the first to exploit the idea of converting smartphone lenses by adding another lens. Since then, they have made a series of high quality conversion lenses for iPhone and Android phones. Until now, these lenses have been mounted to your phone using a case, designed specifically for your model of phone.

Aside from having to purchase a new one every time you upgrade your phone, these cases have had durability issues as well. Having said that, most Moment fans have been happy with their lens + case system. And I guess the new phone, new case suited Moment too.

Universal Clip Mount

Well, now Moment have come up with the clever idea of designing a universal mounting system for their lenses.

While a case has to be designed to fit each new model of phone, a clip like this can fit most phones. Therefore you no longer need to keep buying new Moment cases to enjoy your Moment lens.

To use the clip involves some adjustment and sliding bits around to line up the lenses perfectly. In other words, the smartphone lens needs to be lined up with the Moment lens. With the case designed specifically for your smartphone model, you don’t need to do that.

Note also that the device must be thinner than 10.75 mm and the phone’s camera can’t be more than 39 mm from any edge.

My biggest concern is how much the clip covers the smartphone screen. With the 37mm clip I use for the Moondog Labs anamorphic, part of the clip covered the screen where the FiLMiC Pro exposure controls sit. So the only way I could use the clip and FiLMiC was to shave off a bit of the clip.

You can check out the universal mount on Moment’s Official Website.

Use it with Moondog Labs new Filter Mount

The makers of the best anamorphic lens for smartphones Moondog Labs recently released a mount for filters. That mount works with all the cases and mounts which use the bayonet fitting, like Moment’s. So this would also work with the new universal clip from Moment.
