AxisGO Waterproof iPhone case

One of the great things about filming with a smartphone is the versatility of the camera due to it’s size. There are small cameras, like GoPro for example, but they don’t have a nice big screen attached. So you can’t use a camera app to get full control over your image capture.

And this is why smartphones are the perfect compromise between size and usability. But what if you want to go underwater?

Many new models of smartphone are “water-resistant”. This will protect your phone from being dropped in the pool or spilling coffee over it, but only for a short time. For example, the Samsung S10 will withstand being completely submerged in water up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes.

But what if you actually want to film in or under water?

Then you will need to encase your smartphone in some kind of purpose-built, waterproof housing.

AquaTech make all kinds of professional waterproof housings for cameras. The have created a waterproof housing for iPhones called AxisGO. Yesterday I posted some “shot on iPhone” videos, including those shot using an AxisGO.

The iPhone housing is aimed at consumers but is constructed to the same rigorous standards as the pro kit.

With full touchscreen sensitivity, AxisGO allows image capture with the phone’s native camera app, or other applications such as FiLMiC Pro.

10 meters depth

The AxisGO allows you to shoot at depths down to 33 feet (10 metres). The case is constructed from polycarbonate and aluminum materials that are very solid and secure. At the same time, the AxisGO is lightweight hard wearing.

Obviously, this thing is designed to tackle even the toughest natural environments. They even claim you can “make and receive calls with fantastic audio quality”. Do they mean while underwater? If so, I would love to call my mum while 10 meters down.

“What’s that noise? Are you in a tunnel?”

“No…. I’m actually getting a selfie with a bluefin tuna!”

OK, so this fantasy includes me owning an iPhone, an AxisGO and learning to dive. But still…

Ergonomically Designed

I love the word “ergonomically” don’t you? It’s a good word to use when you want to impress people with your tech. This thing isn’t just designed well, it’s designed with a long sciencey-sounding word.

Anyway, the AxisGO grip is designed to be very grippy (essential when holding your phone whilst in the sea). There is a wrist lanyard, too. Phew.

The handle also doubles as a single button locking mechanism for secure closure and easy opening. There are top and bottom mounting points for further mounting possibilities – such as the AxisGO Pistol Grip.

Lenses

The AxisGO allows you to add extra lenses – for ultra wide shots or split shots above and below water (with the 6″ dome port).
