Coronavirus: Everything Cancelled

Yesterday, we got the news from the venue, due to coronavirus measures our event (and everyone else’s) has been cancelled. While we had pretty much accepted MoMo 6 would not take place this year for a few days now, we were still holding out “just in case”. But now we can confirm it’s definitely not going to happen.

Of course, it is terribly sad – for us, the filmmakers and smartphone film fans. So, the work we and everyone involved put into this event comes to nothing, at the last moment. However, when we see what is going on now around the world, this is really a small sacrifice on our part.

As you can see, we are experiencing unprecedented times. Pretty much all major events being cancelled or delayed indefinitely, and nobody is quite sure when things will be able to get running again. As I write this, it seems another country is announcing shutting things down and closing borders every 10 minutes.

We’re now in a situation where nobody really knows what’s going to happen and for how long. But the most important thing is we do everything we can to look after each other. Let’s get energised to try to minimise the damage done and the tragedy of lives lost.

Meanwhile, we will make plans for the future of MoMo. Our winners will still receive their awards, of course. And somehow we will show this year’s selected films to an audience, at some point in the future.

We’d just like to thank everyone who has supported the festival, including all the filmmakers who submitted films, all our readers and viewers and of course our supporters on Patreon who keep MoMo running. Best wishes to you all, your friends and families. Stay well.
