GoPro Hero8 Black: Everything We Know

GoPro recently released a teaser videos via their social media channels. Is this a glimpse at footage from the new GoPro Hero8 Black?

GoPro will announce a new Hero 8 Black action camera on 1st October. There will also be the GoPro Max, a 360° camera to replace the current GoPro Fusion.

The teaser comes with the tagline “This Is Action”. No mention is made of Hero8 Black or GoPro Max, but we can make a guess.

The video shows footage in the style we have to expect from action cameras. People filming themselves whilst in the middle of a variety of activities such as diving, skydiving, surfing, mountain biking, snowboarding and jetsuit flight.

Leaks and Rumours

GoPro is still the biggest action camera brand in the world. However, the company hasn’t had it all its own way, in recent years. Some questionable decisions and aggressive competition has brought the action cam heroes back to Earth.

But the Hero 7 Black sold enough units to restore confidence somewhat. So now the release of the GoPro Hero 8 Black is coming and anticipation climbing.

Photo Rumors has posted a full set of product images of the GoPro Hero8 Black, along with shots of the packaged camera.

Information from the packaging reveals some GoPro Hero8 Black specs to look forward to:

  • 12MP camera
  • 4K video up to 60 frames per second
  • 1080p up to 240, 1080p live streaming
  • HyperSmooth 2.0 image stabilization

From these leaks, it looks like the camera will feature different housings. This includes one for blogging and broadcasting, with a microphone and dedicated mounting shoes. The leaks show LED lighting panels and external monitors, in contrast to the Sony RX0 II flip screen and the DJI Osmo Action front-facing vlogging screen.

The rumoured price for the basic Hero8 Black appears to be around $500.
