New MoMo T-Shirt Designs!
In the last few days, I’ve taken a break from editing Silent Eye Episode 5: Sleep House to spice up our official MoMo Merch. At the same time, I came up with a punchy slogan for all us smartphone filmmakers…
SMALL CAMERAS BIG IDEAS
So the new t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts carry the new design, which were are putting out there via the popular platform Teespring.com. We looked at other sites, but Teespring seems to give the bigger % of the cost to the makers. They also ship to USA and Europe.
While we had MoMo apparel before, it was a bit basic. Also, I wanted a smaller design, set to the side of the shirt/hoodie option.
Why do we sell merchandise?
In short, we need funds to support our work as a one of the world’s leading film festivals dedicated to smartphone filmmakers. I personally write on average 6 posts a week, bringing you news, ideas, tips and tutorials on related subjects. MoMo Academy and Free Film School bring you smartphone filmmaking (and general low-to-no budget) techniques and knowledge.
Filmfreeway say they have over 8000 festivals listed on their online film submission site. And MoMo is consistently rated in the top 100 of those festivals, in terms of filmmakers’ feedback. One of the reasons we are rated so highly is because we put a lot of effort into communication with filmmakers. Plus we put on an excellent event every year. And there’s only 2 of us!
Our site is currently advertising free, although we do use Amazon affiliate links (which adds about $500 a month to our funds). We are also hugely reliant and grateful to our awesome supporters on Patreon.
It’s very easy for “influencers” to find themselves dependent on good relations with product sellers, which then makes it difficult for them to provide honest reviews. At MoMo, we try to remain as independent as we can and give our honest opinion on things (and it is only our opinion).
When we were sponsored by Samsung for example we had a lot more funds. But we had to say 100% positive things about Samsung products. Indeed, they made it clear their relationship with us was ultimately about selling more smartphones and TVs.
