Samsung Galaxy S11 (S20?) – Video Pro Mode and Director’s View

At xda developers they have been digging into the Android update to look for clues about new potential new features.

“Samsung’s latest software builds usually gives us a good idea about what Samsung is working on for its upcoming smartphones… Software can prove to be a reliable source of leaks because these strings show the actual features that Samsung has spent time and money developing.” XDA DEVELOPERS

The recent information was found in the Galaxy Note 9’s official One UI 2.0 update rolling out now.

Director’s View

xda developers speculate a “director’s view” mode will allow you to swap between the different lenses on the Galaxy S20, during recording. This would be a feature similar to that promised by FiLMiC Pro for the iPhone 11 Pro.

xda developers say:

“It looks as though you will be able to select a subject to focus on and the Galaxy S20 will automatically track them. It will also allow you to get close up shots of a subject.”

Single Take Photo

This feature seems to be there to enhance your photography skills. The idea is that the Samsung AI will pick the perfect moment to snap a photo. For example, when someone is smiling (like Google’s Photobooth). But Samsung’s version will be about more than just selfies, helping you get the best shot while panning around.

Samsung already have “Shot Suggestion” on the Galaxy S10.

“Shot suggestions makes it simple by bringing up a graphic target that directs you to the ideal photo composition.” Samsung

This feature guides you, helping you to take more nicely framed shots. With “Single Take Photo”, this process could be more automated. Just swing your Samsung Galaxy S11 wildly in the direction of the subject and then check your screen to find you have turned into Sebastião Salgado

Pro Video

A lot of people were sad when Samsung took away the pro mode from video in their native camera app. As a Samsung shooter, I wasn’t too happy either. But…

…it looks like it’s coming back! Finally, we will be able to set the exposure, shutter speed, frame rate, white balance and ISO manually in the native app. Looking forward to seeing if they make any user interface improvements too.

Bokeh Effects

Most phone makers have been playing with the AI-driven fake shallow depth of field. This involves software which tries to work out where the subject of the photo is, draw a mask around it/them and then add blur to everything else. While this works pretty well for photos, for video it’s really asking a lot. Hence, its doesn’t work too well (yet).

Samsung introduced new Live Focus effects with the Galaxy S10. Such features as Blur, Big Circles, Color Point, Spin and Zoom. Apparently, Samsung is also working on 4 new modes: Artify, Mono, Side Light and Vintage. xda developers also say an effect called “Glitch” also is included as a bokeh effect, along with a Live Focus Video. Therefore, there is a chance it being available for video as well as stills.

That’s it for this week’s Samsung smartphone rumours. Some of it sounds interesting, while other stuff sounds more like the features you use once and then forget about.
