The Future Is Pixel 4, the Future is Oh So Orange

There’s just a few weeks to go before the release of the new Google smartphone range: the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. There have now been so many leaks, unless they’re deliberately misleading, there will be no surprises come October 15th.

First, we saw the Huawei and iPhone-like square camera housing on the back. Then we got a video demonstration of a prototype model. There was also screenshots of full device specs. All from the a business called D Store in Vietnam.

Now we have a leak from a phone store in Ireland. It seems a store owner accidentally listed the new Pixel 4 phones, revealing prices and colours.

Pricing

So, it seems pricing – in Ireland at least – will start at €820 for the base Pixel 4. That would convert to just about $900.

Colour

Pixels will again come in “Clearly White” and “Just Black”. The orange Pixel 4s will be known as “Oh So Orange.”

Do Google know what they’re doing? Of course they do. They run half the planet.

You see, by giving their smartphone colours custom names, these names will be distinctive in online searches. “Clearly white” will be clearly Google’s.

This is just a hunch, but considering Google are by far the biggest store of search information in the world, are these extra words the ones most commonly associated with the colours in searches?

For example, is the most common (brandable) word associated with white “clearly”? Do people most often Google “just black” in combinations with that colour? Is “oh so orange” a commonly searched term?

Storage

The Irish shop website showed (before it was quickly taken down) all three colors available for both the Pixel 4 and 4 XL, and each will be available in either 64 or 128GB of storage. The price for the 128GB version was listed as €940 ($1035).

Price for the Pixel 4 XL with 128GB storage is €1126 ($1240).

Bear in mind the conversion of prices to dollars cannot be 100% accurate. The Irish price will include taxes (VAT) and prices vary according to territory. But it gives us a rough idea of where the price will be.

Accidental leaks?

The leaks are all coming from either Vietnam or Ireland. So seemingly 2 random, unconnected areas of the world. Except, Ireland is where Google has it’s European HQ (for tax purposes). Meanwhile, Vietnam is where Google recently moved the production of their devices such as smartphones to avoid the China-USA trade war.

The Future is Bright, the Future is… Google’s Rainbow Colours?
